Age: A student must be 16 years of age or older to fly solo. In order to hold a Private Pilot Licence (PPL) you must be 17 years of age or over. However, many of our students commence training prior to this. Medical: It is a legal requirement that all pilots hold a current Aviation medical certificate to fly solo. We recommend that you have the examination prior to commencing Private Pilot Licence studies and if you intend future study for a Commercial Pilot Licence it is advisable to inform the doctor of this at the time of examination. The wearing of glasses may not prevent you getting your medical nor restrict your licence in any way. A list of medical examiners is available on the Civil Aviation Authority web site – www.caa.govt.nz Course Duration: As training is designed to suit the individual, the time taken to complete the Private Pilot Licence and Commercial Pilot Licence is dependent upon the student’s own situation. A full time Private Pilot Licence can be completed in around 3 months, however most students prefer a more relaxed pace and take up to 10 - 12 months to finish their training. There is no actual time restriction in which to complete the course, however it is advisable to try and complete training within 12 months in order to maintain continuity. Like to get started?
